Tumblr letters you can copy

A Tumblr blog has a title, a description, and a URL. The title and the description accept Unicode. The URL is a slug on tumblr.com and must stay in plain characters. People bookmark the URL. They glance at the title. Style the title lightly so it is still recognisable when a theme already uses a large display face.

Theme fonts and pasted Unicode are different. A theme can set a serif for post titles. A pasted alphabet replaces the characters, so the theme font does not restyle those letters. If your theme is already loud, a normal title with one styled word is calmer than a fully transformed title.

Posts and reblog captions accept a paste. A styled first line can act as a kicker. The body of a post should stay in normal type so it remains searchable and readable in the dashboard, where width is narrow. This page is not the Twitter page: a Tumblr description can be a real paragraph, and a Twitter bio cannot.

Ask titles and page titles in the blog menu should stay plain. They are navigation. A visitor who cannot read the menu cannot find the archive. Put the fancy line in the blog title or the top of the description.

The full style catalog, including every alphabet used in these previews, is on the Fancy Font Generator.

Best fonts for Tumblr

Blog title. One styled word plus a normal word, or a short bold phrase. A long script title fights the theme.

Description. Open with a styled sentence if you want a mood, then explain the blog in normal sentences.

Post kicker. The first line of a text post can be styled. The paragraphs under it should not be.

URL. Choose a plain slug you can read out. It will not accept the styled title.

How to use these fonts

Type the line you will paste, choose one style, and copy it into the field that accepts it.

  1. Type the blog title. Look at it in the card next to a normal description line. If both are styled, clear one of them.
  2. Pick a style quieter than your theme. If the theme is a script already, use a simple bold row or none at all for the title.
  3. Paste in blog settings. Title and description are in the blog settings. The username or blog address is the plain field.
  4. View the dashboard column. Open your blog in the dashboard width. Cut the description if the styled first line wraps more than twice.

Frequently asked questions

How do I change the font on a Tumblr blog?

Theme options change the theme font. These styles are separate: you paste Unicode into the title, description, or a post. A theme font does not redraw a character you already replaced.

Can my Tumblr URL be fancy?

No. The blog address is a plain slug. Style the title instead.

Will a styled title show in the dashboard?

Yes, as characters. A very wide script title will be cut in the narrow column. Shorten it after you look at the dashboard.

Should tags be in a fancy font?

No. Tags need to match tags other people use. Leave them in normal letters.

Is this the same as a Twitter bio?

No. A Tumblr description can explain the blog at more length. Write that explanation in normal type under a short styled line.
