Make glitch text and Zalgo text from a normal word
The Glitch Text Generator takes a normal word and stacks Unicode combining marks above, through, and below the letters. The base letters stay in the string. The marks make the line look broken, shaky, or cursed. People use that look for a horror nickname, a Discord tag, a single caption word, or a game label when the game allows those characters.
This is not the same job as the Generate Fancy Text Online catalog. Fancy letters there replace A with a bold or script character. Glitch text keeps your letters and hangs marks on them. A whole sentence at high intensity becomes a tall block that many apps clip. One word is the useful length.
How the three intensities work
Mini adds a light shake. It is the one to try first for a username, because the line stays closer to a normal height. Normal is the familiar Zalgo look: marks above and below, still usually readable as the original word. Maxi pushes the marks farther. It is for a single dramatic word in a post, not for a bio sentence.
Regenerate keeps the same word and intensity but picks a new arrangement of marks. The same name can look different each time. Copy when the shape feels right. The result is text, not a picture, so you paste it where Unicode combining marks are allowed.
- Type a short word or a very short phrase.
- Choose Mini, Normal, or Maxi.
- Press regenerate if you want another pattern.
- Copy and paste into the app, then look at the height on a phone.
Where glitch text holds up
Discord nicknames and a single chat word are the most forgiving. Instagram bios sometimes clip the tallest marks. WhatsApp may draw the stack in a calmer way, or it may show gaps if the font ignores some marks. Games often reject combining characters even when they accept bold Unicode letters. Test before you spend a rename.
Screen readers may still speak the base word, sometimes with odd pauses. Do not glitch a password, an email address, or a phone number. The marks make those strings hard to check and easy to mis-copy.
A calmer style when glitch is too much
If the stack is too tall, switch back to a one-to-one style. Discover More Unicode Font Styles on the Fancy Font Generator homepage: bold, script, bubble, and wide letters without combining marks. You can also explore all text styling tools, including Cartoon Font for a round look and Text to ASCII when you want a banner instead of a cursed word.
For additional font styles and text effects, the homepage is the catalog. This page is only the glitch effect. Use it when you want the broken look on purpose.
What this page does not do
It does not install a font. It does not upload your word. The marks are applied in the browser. It does not promise that every app will draw Maxi intensity the same way. A font that skips combining marks will look almost plain. A font that draws every mark will look much taller. Both results are normal.
The site may show ads. There is no account. Limits of the tools are in the disclaimer, and questions go to the contact page.
Test the name before you change it
Mini is the intensity to try first on a username. The marks are lighter, so the line stays closer to a normal height in Discord, a game profile, or a short bio. Normal is the familiar Zalgo look: you can still read the word, and the stack is obvious. Maxi is for one dramatic word in a caption. A full sentence at Maxi becomes a tall block, and many apps clip it or push the next line out of view.
Regenerate keeps your word and your intensity, then picks a new arrangement of marks. There is no saved seed. If you like a pattern, copy it immediately. Refreshing the page or pressing regenerate again will not bring that exact stack back. Paste the copy into the real profile and look at it on a phone, not only in this preview. A desktop font may draw every mark, while a phone font skips some and looks calmer, or draws all of them and looks much taller.
Combining marks are extra characters. An eight-letter name can become a much longer string once the marks are attached. Platforms that limit a nickname count those marks. If the paste is rejected, shorten the word or drop from Maxi to Mini. Spaces and punctuation collect marks too, which makes a sentence grow faster than a single name.
When a plain style is the better choice
Glitch text is a poor fit for anything someone must copy exactly: an email, a discount code, a phone number, a password, or a street address. The marks are easy to miss and easy to include by accident. Screen readers may still speak the base word, sometimes with odd pauses, so do not style a warning or a direction this way.
Search boxes and many games treat combining marks as invalid. If a rename fails, the letters themselves are not the problem. The marks are. Switch to a one-to-one style from the homepage, where each letter becomes one styled character and the line stays a single row. Use this glitch page only when the broken look is the point, and keep the word short enough that the destination can show the whole stack.
Frequently asked questions
What is glitch text?
Glitch text, often called Zalgo text, keeps the original letters and stacks Unicode combining marks on them so the word looks corrupted.
Will it work on Instagram and Discord?
Often on Discord and on many Instagram bios. Very high intensity is more likely to be clipped. Mini or Normal is safer for a name.
Does it change the letters?
No. The base letters stay in the string. The effect comes from the marks attached to those letters.
Why does it look different in another app?
Each app draws combining marks in its own font. Some marks are ignored. If the result is too tall or too plain, pick another intensity or use a homepage style instead.
Is there a length limit?
Keep it short. A long sentence at Maxi intensity is hard to read and can break a layout. Use Normal for a bio word and Mini for a username.
